Every culture has an ancient tradition of dying textiles; Rivano was inspired by Japan’s. In shibori, meaning “to wring, squeeze or press,” cloth is hand-shaped and tied to create a pattern on the finished fabric. On our jacquard, the design and slight shimmer resemble shibori’s undulating geometric waves—zenlike, near-hypnotic, and utterly urbane.
